Jul 2016 - DINE CONTRACT CATERING HELPS DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD REACH LOCAL SCHOOLS

Thousands of pounds raised by Dine Contract Catering will help ensure that students across the Warrington area will have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).

A donation of £10,000 by the Warrington based, entrepreneurial operator, will mean the Award organisers are able to target all educational establishments in the area, which are not currently offering the programme, and give them the resources needed to do so within the next two years.

The funds will also support potential access to the DofE’s ‘Open Award’ for local young people not currently in education or employment.

All Apprentices at Dine Contract catering are given the opportunity to complete the DofE’s Bronze Award as part of their training, with many choosing to progress to the Gold Award.

Through a Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE Award, young people aged 14-24 from all backgrounds and circumstances have the opportunity to gain valuable life experience, while building their confidence and developing essential employability skills.

The donation marks the latest in Dine Contract Catering’s long-running support for the charity, which it has raised almost £40,000 for to date.

“From cycling to Paris, to climbing to the peak of Snowden, to our recent completion of Hadrian’s Cycleway, we’ve embarked on a number of challenges over the years to raise funds for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which have helped make this donation possible,” said Ian Cartwright, Dine Contract Catering Managing Director.

“We can see just how much our own Apprentices get from taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and we’re proud to be doing our part to help make sure that all students in the area have access to this fantastic programme.”

Earlier this year, Dine Contract Catering hosted a Ready, Steady Cook style event to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Award, which was attended by His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex.
