Apr 2018 - YPRES 200 - Charity Cycle Ride

Team Members from Dine Contract Catering are looking to raise another £10,000 in the company’s latest fundraising efforts which will see the team take part in a 200-mile cycle ride across Belgium to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War conflict.

The funds are donated to the Duke of Edinburgh Award, a charity dedicated to supporting young people aged between 14 and 24 – many of whom are from a disadvantaged background – to develop the life and work skills needed to help them reach their full potential. Dine Contract Catering is a long-time supporter of the charity and has raised almost £50,000 for the charity in the last 5 years.

This year’s charity event starting on the 9th May 2018 will see a route on day one from the Belgium port of Zeebrugge to Ypres in the Belgian province of West Flanders. Day two will see the team cycle around the surrounding areas where many cemeteries and memorials honour the battles that unfolded in this area during World War 1. The day will finish at Menin Gate at 8pm for the sound of the Last Post. Menin Gate is a memorial to the missing of the First World War and bears the names of 54,389 officers and men from United Kingdom and Commonwealth. Day three the team hit the saddle for the final 70-miles of our journey heading   back to Zeebrugge via the coastal road.
