Team Members at Dine Contract Catering Rise to the Challenge

Leading independent operator, Dine Contract Catering has announced the winner of its “Great Bake Off Challenge”, as the competition reached its final climax last week.  The event, which was organised in conjunction Unilever Food Solutions, saw team members from across the business going head to head in a bid to be awarded the ‘Best Baker’.

The competition set team members the challenge of creating a recipe for an original cake with a maximum food cost of 50p per portion.  The standard of entries was very high but only 10 entrants could be selected for the final round which saw the competitors presenting their signature bakes to the judges.

Judges for the Bake Off were Jim Cartwright (Chairman), Steve Kyffin (Operations Director) and National Account Manager at Unilever Solutions, Howard Beasley.

Trudi Mills, General Assistant at Kerry Ingredients was crowned the winner with her Toffee Apple Cake creation.  The top baker earnt herself a trophy along with a meal for a family of four, a hamper and a Unilever Food Solutions baking day.  Trudi fought off tough competition from runner-ups Wendy Turner (Purchase Ledger Supervisor) with her Lime Cream Cheese Cake and Beth Lowde (who works at the Radius site in Mansfield) with her Gluten Free Bakewell Cake.  Wendy and Beth received trophies, hampers and high street vouchers.  All finalists will also have the honour of their creations being added to the company’s range of recipes as well as being featured in a special recipe book.

Ian Cartwright, Managing Director of Dine Contract Catering, was delighted with the success of the competition: “With the Great Bake Off Challenge, we wanted to inject a bit of fun and bring the team together.  It was great to see team members from across the business taking part, including some of the apprentices from our new scheme which was created last January.”
