Jan 2016 - DINE CONTRACT CATERING CROWNS BEST BAKER

Dine Contract Catering’s Stephen Coltart was crowned the winner of the annual Great Bake Off Challenge after his signature St Clements Cheesecake wowed the judges.

Organised in conjunction with Unilever Food Solutions, the competition saw team members from across the business go head to head in order to be named Dine Contract Catering’s Best Baker.  Rising to the challenge of preparing a recipe for an original cake with a maximum food cost of just 50p per portion, Stephen, who is the Area Support Manager for Scotland, beat competition from fellow Finalists Steve Conway, Jacqueline Fielding, John Sanderson, Helen Ellis and Tracey Bagshaw all of whom provided some fantastic displays of baking.

For his winning effort, Stephen won a luxury hamper, a coveted winner’s medal and the prestigious title of ‘Great Bake Off Winner 2016’.  After a tense build up to the winner’s announcement, a thrilled Stephen told us that having qualified as a Finalist last year, the judges’ advice to “keep it simple” is one that he really took on-board and focused on adapting into his fantastic twist on a St Clements Cheesecake.

The Final of the competition took place at Dine Contract Catering’s headquarters at Birchwood Park on 27th January, where contestants presented their cakes for judges.

All Finalists will also have the honour of their creations being added to the company’s range of recipes as well as being featured in a special recipe book.

“After narrowing the high number of impressive entries we received from across the company to just 6 Finalists, we knew we’d face a real challenge in choosing an overall winner,” said Robby Ryan, Regional Manager at Dine Contract Catering.

“Not only were we impressed once again by the level of creativity and talent of our chefs, it was great to see team members from all aspects of the business coming together to enjoy such a fun way of showing their skills.

“Once again, we’d like to thank Unilever for its support, including the fantastic prizes."
